FAQs
What dyes do you use?
There are three types of dyes I use: acid dyes, procion dyes and natural dyes. Acid dyes for protein (animal) fibres, procion dyes for cellulose (plant) fibres, and natural dyes for both.
Do you use chemical mordants in natural dyeing?
I do not use harmful chemicals such as iron, copper, or tin. The only commercially produced mordant I use is Alum: Aluminum Sulphate for protein fibres or Aluminum Acetate for cellulose fibres. Alum is the only chemical that can be safely disposed domestically.
When I can get the supply I use a natural mordant called Symplocos, it is ground dried leaves that’s rich in Aluminum. I source this from Bebali Foundation in Indonesia who facilitate the sustainable collection and sale of the fallen leaves, the reason I may not always have this option on hand.
I also use home brewed iron and copper vinegar solutions when I need to effect colour changes.
Why do I have to pay parcel post shipping when I only order a small/light item?
I try my best to keep the shipping cost at a minimum, and I use AusPost parcel post because it is tracked. On occasions I may use other carriers but they are always tracked parcels.
Do you accept returns?
Yes if the items are kept in their original (unused) state but at buyer’s own cost. Upon receipt of the returned item(s) I will issue a refund of the purchase price, unfortunately I cannot refund postage as this is out of my hands.
I take pride in my work and I always check each item before sending to make sure that they are in perfect condition, however if in rare event that an item is faulty (e.g. matted or felted fibre intended for spinning) I will absolutely refund all your purchase cost associated with that item including the initial shipping.
“I have never met a fibre artist who could get such amazing reds! And the wool itself… so soft and luscious. Get it while you can :D”
"I’m absolutely itching to start spinning this beautiful fibre. The purple tones are so gorgeous. “
