Yarn over Yarn and Kai Fella Sweater

This post is a little overdue but I had been lax in all of my social media postings so please be soft with me.

I made a sweater for Mr. Cat for Christmas. It was actually quite a last minute thing as I hadn’t intended it to be his Christmas present, not for 2022 at least. I was actually looking for a project to work on during the break, but once I cast on I couldn’t stop. The colour blocks were addictive and I just wanted to get to the next block, and the next block… and before I knew it I’d finished it. From casting on to cast off it took me 10 days, I actually wove in all the ends in the early hours of Christmas Day. It was definitely a record for me!

Kai Fella Sweater for Mr. Cat

The yarn I used was called Yarn over Yarn spun by a mini mill in New South Wales, called Fibre Arts Shed. I bought the yarn during the Big Wool Show event in last November. What’s so cool about this yarn is that it was spun with 50% new wool and 50% of the reclaimed mill waste that would otherwise be discarded. So when Mr. Cat chose the pattern - The Kai Fella Sweater, I knew I wanted to use this yarn. It came in a very pleasing natural silver grey, and it took to colours beautifully.

The yarn is worsted weight in 2 ply construction and I achieve the required tension of 18 sts/10cm with 4.5mm needles. The finished sweater is light, cosy and warm, it only weighed 453g. Mr. Cat was very happy, like the cat who got the cream 😉

I was so impressed with the yarn I wanted to stock it, so I got in touch with Clare from Fibre Arts Shed and now they are spinning a new batch of Yarn over Yarn for me. So watch out for this space, new sweater yarn is coming. What colours would you like to see? Let me know below or drop me a line. Until next time, happy crafting!
